How We Classify Dupes
We use two categories throughout the site, and we apply them consistently rather than calling everything a “clone”.
Most of the published notes overlap, and the comparison is the one reviewers make unprompted, in numbers. Most people would struggle to separate the two blind, at least for the first hour.
The DNA is recognisable, but the composition diverges: different materials, different balance, or a noticeably different drydown. Worth owning on its own terms rather than as a substitute.
Neither category is better than the other. A Type B that suits your skin is more useful than a Type A that does not. 1. Give the bottle time
Arabian fragrances are frequently bottled soon after blending, and the composition continues to settle for several weeks afterwards. 3. Skin chemistry matters more with dupes
Because a dupe is aiming at a specific target, any deviation caused by your skin is more noticeable than it would be with an original composition. A Type A on someone else may read as a Type B on you. With 30-day returns there is little at risk, but if you are replacing a signature scent, wear it for a full day before you decide.
Are Lattafa Dupes Worth It?
For most people, yes, with a caveat. You are usually trading refinement in the top notes and some complexity in the drydown for a price difference of £60 to £260 a bottle. If you wear fragrance daily and rotate often, that trade is straightforwardly good value. Which Lattafa is a dupe of Dior Sauvage Elixir?
Lattafa Asad. It shares pepper, tobacco, vanilla, amber and labdanum with Sauvage Elixir and adds pineapple and coffee, so it wears sweeter and a little less refined. It is the most-named comparison in Asad’s reviews. Asad Elixir, despite the name, is compared to Hugo Boss Bottled Absolu instead.
Which Lattafa is a dupe of Baccarat Rouge 540?
Ana Abiyedh Rouge is the Lattafa most often compared to Baccarat Rouge 540. It is out of stock at the time of writing, which is why it is not in the tables above; the product page carries the comparison and you can join the restock list there.
Are Lattafa dupes legal in the UK?
Yes. “Inspired by” fragrances are a long-established category. A scent itself cannot be trademarked, and Lattafa sells under its own names, bottles and branding rather than imitating a designer’s trade dress. What is illegal is counterfeit product sold as the designer original, which is a different thing entirely and one our authentication guide helps you avoid.
Why does my Lattafa dupe smell different from the original?
Three usual reasons. The bottle is new and has not macerated; several Lattafas change noticeably after a few weeks’ rest. The pairing is a Type B, sharing a direction rather than a formula. Or, on a marketplace purchase, the bottle is not genuine. Check the table above for the type, rest the bottle for a month, and verify the seal.
How do you decide what counts as a dupe?
Two tests, both from public data. We compare the two published note pyramids on Fragrantica and count the overlap, allowing synonyms. Then we read the review text on the Lattafa’s page and check whether wearers name that original unprompted and in numbers. A pairing needs both to be a Type A. If reviewers name a different original, we say so, even when it contradicts a product title of our own.
