What is Lattafa Asad a dupe of?
This is the original black-and-gold Asad, often called Asad Black, and it is the one compared to Dior Sauvage Elixir: black pepper, tobacco and pineapple over a vanilla-amber base, for £17.99.
Searching for a different bottle? Asad Elixir is compared to Hugo Boss Bottled Absolu, and Asad Bourbon is compared to Azzaro The Most Wanted.
Some fragrances enter a room. Asad announces one. Named after the Arabic word for lion (اسد), it is the black-and-gold bottle that built its reputation quietly after its 2021 launch, and it now sits at 4.03/5 from more than 14,000 votes on Fragrantica.
Its notes below are checked against Fragrantica and Lattafa’s US distributor listing, and every bottle we sell is current stock, stored and dispatched from the UK.

What Does Lattafa Asad Smell Like?
Picture a leather armchair in a Marrakech riad. Coffee brewing in the next room, pipe tobacco from somewhere down the hall, pineapple cooling on a copper tray. That is the first ten minutes of Asad.
Top — Black Pepper, Tobacco, Pineapple. Pineapple arrives bright, black pepper gives it bite and tobacco rises beneath, smoky and slightly sweet.
Heart — Patchouli, Coffee, Iris. Coffee deepens the warmth, patchouli adds an earthy weight and iris brings an unexpected powdery softness.
Base — Vanilla, Amber, Dry Wood, Benzoin, Labdanum. The dry-down is where Asad stops being clever and starts being expensive: vanilla, amber and benzoin melt into a sweet resinous warmth, anchored by dry wood and labdanum.
Performance, Measured
Lattafa publishes no official longevity figure. These are wearer-reported ranges from Fragrantica reviews at two sprays: many report six to eight hours, some ten or more, and several say a bottle performs better after a few weeks’ rest. Here’s what maceration does →
How to get the most out of it. Two sprays, one of them on clothing if you want it to last into the evening. It is at its best in autumn and winter, when cold air carries the spice and stops the sweetness feeling heavy. Want the stage-by-stage breakdown? Read our Lattafa Asad review →
Asad and Dior Sauvage Elixir
Lattafa does not name a designer original for Asad, but wearers compare it with Dior Sauvage Elixir more than anything else. The resemblance is in the overall spicy, amber and vanilla mood rather than the note list: on Fragrantica the two pyramids share only amber and patchouli. Asad leans sweeter and spicier; Sauvage Elixir uses lavender, licorice and grapefruit for a fresher, more layered feel.

When to Wear Asad
Ideal for: cold-weather date nights, formal evenings, weekend social events, and gifting anyone who loves designer-style spicy fragrances.
With care: offices and enclosed spaces — one spray, as projection is strong early on.
Better skipped: hot summer days, when heat amplifies the sweetness. For summer, Asad Zanzibar is the lighter choice.
