Lattafa Leather Perfumes

Lattafa leather perfumes are for anyone who wants a fragrance with a bit of grain to it: smoky, resinous and warm rather than sweet and clean. There is no leather flower, so the note is built from materials such as birch tar and saffron, and it ranges from soft suede to dark, oud-laced leather. If you are new to it, start with King of Arabia: jammy raspberry and bergamot slide into polished leather over vanilla, so the fruit gives you an easy way in.

Where to start

• King of Arabia — raspberry, osmanthus and orris over leather, vanilla and patchouli. Sweet, strong and evening-coded; one or two sprays is plenty.
• Al Qiam Gold — saffron and raspberry over leather, smoky oud and guaiac wood. The darker, more resinous choice for cold evenings.
• Dynasty — rooibos tea wrapped in suede, over cedar and cashmeran. The gentlest leather here: quiet, refined and office-safe. Give it thirty minutes past the sharp opening.
• Al Dur Al Maknoon Silver — pineapple and apple over smoky birch, with oakmoss and a touch of leather in the base. A fruity-smoky daytime scent where leather is a supporting note, not the headline.
