French Avenue Liquid Brun 100ml Eau de Parfum — Cinnamon, Praline & Vanilla
Liquid Brun is the fragrance that made French Avenue’s name in the UK. Warm cinnamon and bright bergamot open it, a creamy bourbon vanilla heart gives it weight, and a base of praline, ambroxan, musk and guaiac wood carries it well into the night. Sweet without being sickly, and considerably more polished than the price suggests.
Fragrance notes
Top: Cinnamon, bergamot, cardamom, orange blossom
Heart: Bourbon vanilla, elemi
Base: Praline, ambroxan, musk, guaiac wood
How it wears
The opening is the spiciest part, cinnamon and cardamom lifted by citrus, and it reads bright for the first twenty minutes or so. From there the vanilla takes over and the fragrance turns noticeably creamier, with elemi adding a soft resinous edge that stops it becoming a straightforward gourmand.
The dry down is where it earns its reputation. Praline and ambroxan give a warm, slightly nutty sweetness, and the guaiac wood underneath keeps it from turning sugary. Close to the skin after a few hours, but persistent.

Who it suits
Buy it if you want a warm spiced gourmand that does not smell cheap, or if you like the idea of a vanilla fragrance but find most of them too sweet. Skip it if you want something fresh or office-neutral, and skip it in summer heat, where the praline and amber become heavy.
Sizes and versions
This listing is the original 100ml eau de parfum. French Avenue also produce a 150ml Limited Edition at extrait strength, which is richer and longer lasting rather than a different fragrance.
