What It Actually Smells Like
One line: a cold apple picked up off a warm wooden table in an incense-scented room.
The first twenty minutes are crisp and peppery. Then it warms fast: saffron and caramel come through together, the cashmeran blurs the edges, and by the end of the first hour it has stopped being a fruity fragrance and become a woody one. From hour four it is oud, vanilla and balsam — soft, sweet-resinous and close to the skin, the phase most people end up buying it for.
Two honest notes. The oud here is polite — if you want the sharp, animalic, properly medicinal kind, this is not that fragrance. And it is a cold-weather scent; in summer heat the caramel-vanilla base can feel heavy.
