Lattafa Khamrah Dukhan (£20.49) is the Khamrah with the sugar turned down and the smoke turned up. It opens on hot pimento and spice, settles into incense and labdanum, and dries down to sweet tobacco, amber and praline.
Fragrantica reviewers rate it 4.20/5 and mostly call it less sweet than the original, with a gentle incense haze rather than real bonfire smoke. It suits cold evenings and people who like tobacco and amber. Skip it if you dislike peppery openings or want a light everyday scent.
Khamrah Dukhan is the third bottle in the Khamrah line, launched in 2025 according to its Fragrantica listing (checked October 2026), where it holds a 4.20/5 rating from about 2,800 votes. Dukhan is Arabic for smoke, and Lattafa’s own description ties the name to the Middle Eastern ritual of burning perfume. Lattafa calls it unisex but says this edition takes a masculine angle; Fragrantica files it under men. No perfumer is credited on Fragrantica.
This review covers what it smells like, how it changes on skin, how it differs from the original, what wearers report about performance and who should leave it on the shelf. If you are still choosing between all four Khamrah bottles, start with our guide to which Lattafa Khamrah to buy.
Khamrah Dukhan Notes: What Is in It?
Fragrantica and Lattafa USA list the same pyramid. Lattafa’s main site uses two alternative names for the same materials: cistus instead of labdanum (labdanum is the resin of the cistus shrub) and orange flower instead of orange blossom.
Fragrantica’s main accords lead with amber, then warm spicy, sweet, tobacco, balsamic, vanilla and smoky. That order is a useful summary in itself: it is an amber scent first and a smoky scent last.
What Does Khamrah Dukhan Smell Like, Stage by Stage?
Fragrantica reviewers describe a fragrance that changes noticeably in its first half-hour and then settles. Their accounts line up well enough to sketch the arc.
Pimento (allspice) leads, hot and peppery. One reviewer found the first spray harsh and synthetic, with smoke and a leathery note arriving within five minutes. Another describes a sour mandarin flash that fades fast. Several say the pimento is overpowering at first.
It turns sweet and spicy, with a boozy-spice feel some reviewers compare to the original Khamrah. Incense and labdanum bring the smoke here. Reviewers describe it as balanced by around the half-hour mark.
Tobacco and amber over praline and tonka. One detailed review calls it less resinous and more spice-driven than you might expect. Opinions split most here: some love it, others find it oily, leathery or like burnt sugar.
Several reviewers praise the fact that it develops rather than smelling the same from start to finish. That is part of its appeal, but it also means your first impression from a test strip will not be the whole story. Give it at least half an hour on skin before you decide.
Khamrah Dukhan vs the Original Khamrah
Most people asking about Dukhan already know the original, so here is how the two compare. The original’s notes come from Khamrah on Fragrantica, which matches Lattafa’s listing.
| Khamrah Dukhan | Khamrah (original) | |
|---|---|---|
| Shared | Praline, tonka bean, benzoin and an ambery warmth | |
| Only in this one | Pimento, mandarin, incense, labdanum, orange blossom, patchouli, tobacco | Cinnamon, nutmeg, bergamot, dates, tuberose, vanilla, myrrh |
| Character | Smoky tobacco-amber, peppery start | Jammy, boozy spiced gourmand |
| Sweetness | Medium; most reviewers find it less sweet | High |
| Fragrantica | 4.20/5, about 2,800 votes · listed for men | 4.21/5, about 31,000 votes · unisex |

The short version: Dukhan keeps the base of Khamrah and swaps the dates and cinnamon for smoke, resin and tobacco. One reviewer liked it as a more masculine alternative in the same warm style; a woman reviewing it found it less sweet than the original and wore it as unisex. On the original Khamrah’s Fragrantica page, at least one reviewer says they prefer Dukhan. If you want to understand the original properly first, our Lattafa Khamrah review covers it in full.
How Smoky Is Khamrah Dukhan, Really?
Less than the name suggests. Reviewers repeatedly describe the smoke as a mild, sweet incense rather than a harsh or ashy smoke. One found very little incense or tobacco at all on their skin, while another describes a clear tobacco-incense phase after the spice settles. Lattafa’s own wording leans on the image of rising smoke and calls the composition bold, but the reviews suggest the smoke is a layer, not the headline.
If you want genuinely dark, resinous smoke, Dukhan is the gentle end of that spectrum. Our guide to frankincense and incense fragrances and our best smoky leather perfumes list both cover drier, heavier options.
Khamrah Dukhan Longevity and Projection: What Wearers Report
Lattafa publishes no longevity figures, and Fragrantica’s vote breakdown was not visible when we checked, so this is paraphrased from written reviews. The picture is mostly strong, with a clear warning about overspraying.
One detailed reviewer reports eight to nine hours. Another found the scent still on their clothes the next day. Several describe it as projecting strongly, especially in the first hours.
One reviewer says a single spray is plenty and found it too intense for regular wear. Another found the first spray of a new bottle nauseatingly strong. Multiple reviewers advise very few sprays.
Reviewers also disagree about resting the bottle. One says it blended much better after a month of ageing; another dismisses the idea that maceration changes a modern perfume. If a new bottle smells harsh, waiting a few weeks costs nothing. Our maceration guide explains both sides.
When to Wear Khamrah Dukhan
Most reviewers treat it as a cold-weather evening scent. One describes it as sweet, dark and projecting and best kept for nights in cold weather rather than daily wear. Lattafa USA’s listing positions it for evening wear and special occasions.
There is a minority view worth knowing: one reviewer found it stayed spicy and balsamic in hot Greek weather, and another found it well blended enough to wear in warmer weather. So it is not unwearable in heat, but autumn and winter evenings, dinners and nights out are where it fits best. In an office or any warm, enclosed space, one spray is the sensible ceiling. It also holds a place in our best Lattafa perfumes for men ranking as the smoky evening pick.
Who Should Skip Khamrah Dukhan?
- Anyone who dislikes peppery openings. The pimento start is the most common complaint.
- People wanting a light daily scent. Several reviewers found it too strong for regular wear.
- Anyone sensitive to dense, sweet-smoky dry-downs. One reviewer found the dry-down like burnt sugar and rated it 3/10; another found it oily and leathery on their skin.
- Smoke purists. If you want a dry, ashy or campfire smoke, the incense here is too soft.
- Anyone who wants a soft feminine gourmand. One woman found it too masculine, although others found it unisex. If you want sweetness without smoke, the original Khamrah or Khamrah Qahwa (see our Qahwa review) are better fits.
Can You Layer Khamrah Dukhan?
Only one layering idea came up in the Fragrantica reviews we read. One wearer layered Dukhan over The Trail by Maison Alhambra to push the smoke further, and described the result as a dark, smoky, candle-like scent. That is one person’s combination, not a tested recipe. If you are layering the original Khamrah instead, our guide to what to layer with Lattafa Khamrah notes that Dukhan shares several notes with it and is worth trying alongside.
Choose Khamrah Dukhan if you like the warmth of Khamrah but find it too sugary, you enjoy tobacco, amber and soft incense, and you want a cold-weather evening scent that develops on skin.
Choose the original Khamrah instead if it is your first Khamrah or you love dates, cinnamon and a sweeter, jammier feel.
Skip it if peppery spice, heavy projection or sweet smoke are not for you, or you need something light for every day.
Every order comes with free tracked UK delivery and no minimum spend. Orders are dispatched within 24 hours, and you have 30 days to return.
