It is not Lattafa Musamam Black Intense (the darker, sweeter flanker in the black snake-embossed bottle) and it is not Lattafa Musamam White Intense (the cleaner, brighter flanker in the white bottle). Lattafa Musamam Fragrance Notes
A fresh aromatic-spicy opening. Mandarin and lavender arrive together and are warmed almost immediately by saffron, so it never reads like a barbershop fougère.
Refined and dry. Rosy geranium sits over sharpened-pencil cedar, with amberwood adding a glowing, slightly mineral warmth underneath the whole thing.
Smoky and resinous. Soft incense and peppery akigalawood over labdanum-rich cistus — this is where the fragrance earns its reputation.
What Does Lattafa Musamam Smell Like?
Clean spice, then wood smoke. The mandarin and lavender give it a bright, almost formal opening, and saffron sits directly underneath to stop it going soapy. Within half an hour the geranium and cedar take over and it turns dry and composed.
The base is what people remember. From roughly the two-hour mark a soft, resinous incense settles in, with a peppery edge from akigalawood and a sticky labdanum warmth from cistus. There is no sweetness to speak of — this is a dry fragrance, closer to a niche incense-woody than to the sugary Arabian gourmands Lattafa is better known for. It wears far more expensive than it costs, and it wears quietly.

Our Lattafa Musamam Review
The dry-down. Incense, akigalawood and cistus is a genuinely niche-leaning combination, and it is executed with more restraint than almost anything else at this price. It is the Lattafa we hand to people who normally shop niche and find most affordable Arabian scents too sweet. Longevity is excellent as well.
It is not a crowd-pleaser, and the opening is the weakest part — the lavender and mandarin can read a little sharp and generic for the first ten minutes before the saffron settles it. It is also easy to over-spray into something harsh, and if you came to Lattafa for the sweet, syrupy style of Khamrah, Musamam will feel austere and possibly dull.
Verdict: the most sophisticated woody in this part of the Lattafa range and superb value for a smoky incense fragrance. Buy it for cool-weather evenings and grown-up occasions — not as an all-purpose daily signature.
